Pune-based ZeroPlast is a social enterprise that focuses on creating a zero-waste world. The startup was founded by environmentalist-turned-entrepreneur Aditya Kabra and Dr Kadhivaran Shanmuganathan, a senior scientist from CSIR National Chemical Laboratory.

The company focuses on curating a circular technology based in the following sphere –

  • Crop residue:
    • Crop residue waste is originally sourced from the farmers, and cellulose is extracted from it.
  • CelluBlend:
    • Cellulose is combined with bio-based additives and binders with the help of their own CelluBlend Technology.
  • Products:
    • Bioplastics and Biocomposites are made from cellulose. The materials are used to make flexible and rigid products.
  • Disposing
    • These products need to be readily biodegradable, which can be later used as manure by the farmers.

Its composters, segregation goods, publications, services, and awareness materials encourage individuals to modify their behaviour and mentality to help save the environment.

Poonam Bir Kasturi founded DailyDump to make home composting a habit in India. Over 50,000 kg of organic waste is saved every day thanks to localized waste management in households, communities, workplaces, and public areas. Its composters, segregation goods, publications, services, and awareness materials encourage individuals to modify their behaviour and mentality to help save the environment.

Shayna EcoUnified India

Stepping up for the alarming situation, Shayna Ecounifed has diverted 45 tonnes of plastic waste into tiles that are beautiful and functional. It is acid-proof, heat resistant, antibacterial as well as unbreakable.

He came up with the idea when he encountered that people are aware of the produced waste and wanted to do something to dispose of or re-use it. It started by acquiring the raw materials and then getting them segregated, shredded and combined with the help of technology.

TrashCon

TrashCon, located in Bengaluru, has created technology (TrashBot) that can autonomously separate unsegregated garbage into bio-waste and non-bio waste with a 99.6% accuracy. Non-biowaste is used to create oil, plastic roadways, and interlocking tiles, whereas biowaste is used to make manure and biogas.

They’ve also devised methods for converting non-biodegradable trash into repurposed plywood sheets. Thousands of ragpickers are given dignified work as they turn them into tables, stools, bookshelves, and equipment.

reChakra

Founded by Amita Deshpande, ReCharkha, a social enterprise based out of Pune, upcycles multi-layered plastic wrappers and bags by spinning it into yarn on a charkha.

reCharkha upcycles waste plastic bags and wrappers using a traditional Charkha and Handloom into beautiful products like bags, mats, potlis, jholas, cutlery kits, storage basket.
