2020 Collection: Tales of Navodha
In 2020, Indian couture brand Bindani, had launched a collection inspired by the Pichwai Art form. Their bridal collection ‘Tales of Navodha’ is an inspiration from the age old Pichwai Paintings. The collection is a combination of modern and traditional art. Inspired by one of the commonly found elements of Pichwai paintings – Lotus, the ensembles represent the meaning of upcoming spring and summer, of happiness, good health and prosperity.
This art form depicts stories of Lord Krishna in various ways. Traditionally represented in the form of paintings on cloth, over the years has turned into various forms of graphics and has now become an inspiration for designs and motifs in the fashion Industry.
Special attention is paid to selection and sourcing of fabric which is modern and meets the quality standard making bindani the ultimate platform for a graceful look. Bindani launched a collection inspired by the Pichwai Art form. Their bridal collection ‘Tales of Navodha’ is an inspiration from the age old Pichwai Paintings.
The word Pichwai comes from ‘pichh’ meaning back, and ‘wai’, meaning textile hanging. Originally, pichwai paintings were used to decorate the temple of Shrinathji in Nathdwara, hung behind the deity to celebrate different seasons, festivals and events in Lord Krishna’s life. Over time, pichwais also found a place in the homes of art connoisseurs, owing to their visual appeal. Like several other traditional Indian art forms, the art of Pichwai is also dying, and requires recognition and revival.
