Holy Waste Recycling Pvt Ltd

Sacred flowers, reborn as eco-friendly incense

Kalyanamm Holy Waste Recycling Pvt Ltd is a Noida-based sustainability startup that transforms sacred flower waste from temples into premium, eco-friendly incense products. Founded in 2023 by Nidhi Sabbarwal, Kalyanamm bridges the worlds of spirituality and sustainable living — turning what would otherwise become environmental pollution into something beautiful and purposeful.

India generates an estimated 300 tonnes of floral waste every day from temples, mosques, and religious ceremonies. Much of this sacred waste ends up in rivers and landfills, contributing to water pollution and environmental degradation. Kalyanamm steps in to close this loop — collecting the flowers, processing them with natural herbs and essential oils, and handcrafting them into 100% vegan, organic, cruelty-free incense cones, sticks, and dhoop sticks.

Every product is free from synthetic chemicals, charcoal, and artificial additives. The result is a low-smoke, fragrant incense that honours devotional traditions while protecting the health of people and the planet.

The Story Behind the Brand

After marrying into a deeply spiritual family in Allahabad, Nidhi Sabbarwal found that the smoke from traditional dhoop and incense irritated her throat, making it hard to participate in family poojas. Rather than stepping away from tradition, she began experimenting at home — combining temple flowers with herbs and essential oils to create a low-smoke, chemical-free incense that worked for her.

When relatives enthusiastically responded to her homemade creations, Nidhi realised she had stumbled onto something larger than a personal fix. She had found a way to preserve devotional traditions without compromising health — and a way to give sacred flowers a second life instead of letting them rot in rivers. In 2023, she launched Kalyanamm with a clear mission: blending spirituality with sustainability.

By August 2024, Kalyanamm had expanded to Amazon and Flipkart, making its eco-friendly products accessible to customers across India.

Sustainability Mission

At its core, Kalyanamm operates on a circular economy model. The brand collects floral offerings that temples discard daily — flowers that would otherwise end up in rivers or landfills — and gives them a purposeful second life. This approach addresses two pressing environmental problems at once: sacred waste pollution and the use of chemical-laden incense products.

India’s incense market is valued at USD 1.3 billion and growing rapidly, driven by demand for cleaner, more conscious alternatives to conventional agarbatti. Kalyanamm positions itself at this intersection of waste reduction and wellness — proving that sustainability and spirituality are not in conflict but deeply aligned.

The brand also champions women’s empowerment: production is carried out by a dedicated team of local women artisans who are trained in standardised processes and work within a decentralised network. This model creates dignified livelihoods while preserving traditional craft knowledge.
