Honey & Jaggery: Healthier choice

Honey & Jaggery: Healthier choice

Processed sugar is linked to unexplained weight gains & is very hard to quit. Cutting down on sugar & switching to healthier alternatives like honey & jaggery is lot easier and beneficial than switching chemically synthesized options.

Jaggery

Jaggery is a concentrated product of sugarcane juice. It is used as a sweetening ingredient in many savoury dishes.

Jaggery is a rich source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin B12, B6, & vitamin C. It also has a good amount of fibre which helps in cleaning of the digestive system and removes toxins. It also acts as a great immunity booster as it contains iron & other trace elements.

Sugar is a simple carbohydrate that gets absorbed in the bloodstream instantly and gives us instant energy. Jaggery on the other hand is a complex carbohydrate and provides energy to the body gradually and for a longer time helping to prevent fatigue.

Jaggery also activates the digestive enzymes & stimulates bowel movements and helps in preventing & relieving constipation.

Honey

Nature is full of sweet surprises & honey is one of them. Honey bees produce this magic potion from the floral nectar which the collect tediously.

They store the honey in wax structures called honeycomb. Honey can be extracted from wild bee colonies. This type of honey has more potent properties as it is ‘au naturale’. On the other hand, it is also extracted from apiculture/beekeeping agricultural practices.

Most microorganisms do not grow in honey, hence sealed honey stays good even after thousand years.

Honey is full antioxidants which help in building immunity against bacterial, fungal & viral infections. If consumed as first thing in the morning it gives extra energy for the whole day.

It is one of the best home remedies for dry & wet cough. Drinking a tablespoon of honey helps in reducing irritation in the throat.

A teaspoon of honey mixed with a glass of warm milk and consumed before going to bed helps in curing insomnia as it relaxes the body.

Both Honey & Jaggery are loaded with natural sugar, and they are amazing sugar substitutes. Naturally produced variants are the best as they are packed with natural vitamins and minerals.
