Saving Energy adds to Sustainability
In past decade technological advances have promoted energy efficiency gains, still worldwide energy usage is expected to grow another 30-35 per cent by 2020.
Saving Energy adds to sustainability holds true. Switching to energy efficient light bulbs worldwide will lead to savings of around USD $120 billion annually. If we talk about LED bulbs in comparison to CFL & Incandescent Bulbs, they provide same brightness at lower energy consumption values.
Residential & Commercial energy usage growing rapidly year on year and is only second to transport on the global energy usage index. Transport is going to grow at another 30-35 per cent by 2020. Road Transport will get a 40 per cent increase & air transport will be tripling itself. Advisable is to share transport options like car pooling to office, using public transport.
Coming to the residential energy consumption, households contribute to 29 per cent of the global energy consumption & hence 21 per cent of resultant CO2 emissions. Residential consumption is constituted majorly by basic home appliances such as Refrigerator, Television, Air conditioners, Fans, Lights, Electric Chimneys, Vacuum Cleaners, Water Pumps, Water Heaters etc.
Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in India has a star rating methodology for home appliances on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 with most energy consuming to 5 being most energy efficient. While buying a home appliance the more star rated appliance we choose to buy, the more energy efficient the home becomes.
Saving energy at a consumer level at household is a stepping stone to a sustainable living. Thus Saving energy adds to sustainability.
